The Danaos reputation for safety and reliability is a significant incentive for customers seeking to charter containerships. Our fleet consists of high-quality vessels, several incorporating the latest design innovations, having been built in the last five years by Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd, one of the largest shipyards.
Three newbuilding contracts with Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd, five with Sungdong Shipgbuilding and Marine Engineering Co. Ltd, five with China Shipbuilding Trading Company Limited, eight with Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co. Ltd and ten with Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction Co. Ltd, will gradually, during the course of 2008-2011, bring our combined containership fleet to 387,000 TEU total capacity, assuming no further acquisitions or dispostions.
Danaos operates a comprehensive maintenance program providing for regular vessel monitoring. Secondhand vessels are systematically subjected to rigorous inspection prior to acquisition.
The average age (weighted by TEU capacity) of the Danaos containership fleet is now approximately 11.0 years, which will come down to 5.7 when all contracted vessels are delivered by 2011.
