Thirty years of growth strategy have paid off in the form of dramatically expanded operational resources. From three original multipurpose vessels in 1987, Danaos currently owns 42 containerships. An additional 27 new vessels are scheduled for delivery between 2009 and 2012.
Today, Danaos is a leading international owner of containerships, chartering vessels on multi-year charters to many of the world's largest liner companies.
The company's current 42 containerships, aggregating some 172,433 TEU, put Danaos among the largest containership charter owners in the world.
Consistent with a strategy of pursuing attractive growth opportunities, the latest Danaos investments in contracted new deliveries will add some 211,450 TEU capacity, boosting the total of 384,000 TEU mark, from a purposeful 69-vessel containership fleet assuming no further acquisitions or dispositions.
